Sykesville Baseball Umpire Program
Sykesville Baseball has been training and using kids to umpire the Sykesville Baseball Rec Program for over 25 years. To be eligible to umpire, kids must turn 12 by August 31 of the Spring Season. No baseball experience is necessary to be an umpire, but most of our umpires are current rec or travel baseball players from Carroll County and the surrounding area.
Umpires are paid for each game that they work and the rate paid is determined by their level and their position (plate or base) during the game. Umpires may also work games for service hours in lieu of pay.
Umpire Information for the 2024 Sykesville Baseball Rec Program
For New Umpires
To become an umpire for the 2024 Spring/Fall Season, you must be 12 years old by August 31, 2024.
There are six (6) 2-hour classes with one (1) outdoor field mechanics class. Training classes for the 2024 Spring/Fall season will be on Sundays as follows:
Dates: Sunday, February 4th - Sunday, March 10th, 2024
Times: 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Location(s): Sykesville Middle School Cafeteria (7301 Springfield Ave, Sykesville, MD 21784) for February 4th and 11th
Fairhaven Retirement Community (7200 3rd Ave, Sykesville, MD 21784) for February 18th, 25th, and March 3rd
Sykesville Middle School Cafeteria (7301 Springfield Ave, Sykesville, MD 21784) for March 10th
Makeup classes will be held the following Wednesday evenings after the Sunday classes at 6:00 p.m. at the Fairhaven Retirement Community (7200 3rd Ave, Sykesville, MD 21784). The Outdoor Training will be held on Sunday, March 17th at the Fairhaven Baseball Fields (600 Obrecht Rd., Sykesville, MD 21784).
For Returning Umpires
There are three (3) 2-hour classes (might go as long as 2.5 hours), which will be provided by All-American Umpires. Training classes for the 2024 Spring/Fall season will be on Sundays as follows:
Dates: Sunday, February 18th - Sunday, March 3rd, 2024
Times: 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
